Michael Hussey returns and Australia bat
Michael Hussey |
There will be mixed emotions in the Hussey household today after Michael was brought straight back into the Australia team at the expense of his brother David against Kenya. Michael was drafted into the World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Doug Bollinger having recovered from his serious hamstring injury.
He'll need to wait and see if the top order allows him a chance to get to the middle after Ricky Ponting decided to bat first rather than go for the quick kill by sticking Kenya in. That could have something to do with Australia's lengthy time since last having a hit on February 25 following the rain-hit match against Sri Lanka.
David Hussey's omission is slightly tough luck because he's had one innings at the tournament - 14 against Zimbabwe - while he also provides some offspin, but Australia have stuck by Cameron White. Elsewhere the team is as expected with the reigning champions sticking with their frontline attack.
Kenya, meanwhile, have made two changes with opening batsman Seren Waters left out alongside experienced former captain Steve Tikolo. Alex Obanda and Rakep Patel, the 21-year-old batsman, have taken their spots.
Australia 1 Shane Watson, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 Cameron White, 6 Mike Hussey, 7 Steve Smith, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Brett Lee, 10 Jason Krejza, 11 Shaun Tait
Kenya 1 Maurice Ouma (wk), 2 Alex Obanda, 3 Collins Obuya, 4 David Obuya, 5 Tanmay Mishra, 6 Thomas Odoyo, 7 Rakep Patel, 8 Jimmy Kamande (capt), 9 Nehemiah Odhiambo, 10 James Ngoche, 11 Elijah Otieno
